Cooking Tips from Photoshop?

If anyone knows how to use Photoshop they will definitely enjoy the video. I thought it was very creative idea from Maya Rota Klein and Diego Lorenzo Zanitti. This video is a must see for all photoshop lovers out there. This video was submitted to the Adobe YouGC competion on the adobe website. Many other designers have submitted there posts and have gotten various ratings.

Dorm Room rennovation?

Yoshikawakuni Plastics designed a new kind of storage. They are Slim Storage Tall Stockers. I think they idea is pretty neat because they are small width wise but long in length and depth which is important when you need that extra space (especially in dorm rooms). They are made out of polpropylene and they come in various sizes and types for storage of different items. I think the product is pretty cool and when it is manufactured, I might consider purchasing one or two.

I want my GelaSkin

A company called GelaSkin created thin, laminated vinyl decals designed to cover and protect your laptop, ipod, iphone/itouch, select phones, select gaming consoles and others against normal everyday wear and tear. What's different with this cover that most other adhesive covers don't have are removable 3M adhesive. This adhesive won't leave that ugly residue that is normally left when covers are removed. With this 3M adhesive, it also will not leave those annoying bubbles. What's cool about these covers are they can be custom made or you can choose a design from an artist that is posted on the site. If a buyer does purchase a design from an artist on the site, they receive a quarterly commission of 10% for sales of GelaSkins with their artwork and 40% for the Giclee prints. I have to say that is pretty amazing. In pricing they rang from $14.95 to $29.95 depending on the device. I think i might consider getting one!

The Swirl

When browsing through Core77.com I came across a new design called the "Swirl." Its designed to help third world countries wash their clothes. The design is pretty cool and the inspiration to help third world countries is very nice. It was designed by a company called designed affairs. It is round shaped and comes with a cap and handles with are detachable.

How it works: You put the clothes in the swirl, roll it to the water supply and put the water in. then to wash, you can roll it or bounce it. Then take out the clothes to dry and transport the water back to the river. According to designed affairs, this process created a more efficient way of washing and scrubbing the clothes. This design is very cool, but some big issues do arrive if it were manufatured. Such as:

1. After you return to your village, you take out the clothes and they are a soapy mess so you would have to rinse them in the river or hang them to dry without rinsing them.

2. How much will the swirls cost? People in developing counties will not buy this if they cost a whole day's pay.

3. What is the strudyness of the swirl? How long will it last?

"Local River" at home?

Want to have a nice ecosystem in your living room? Mathieu Lehanneur designed something called a local river. The local river consists of blown glass, a water pump, plants and fish. The concept of the local river is to help the "lacavores" in San Fransisco. The concept is to have your own vegetable garden in your home. The plants on top of the enclosed glass case will extract nutrients from the fish. And in turn the plants will act as a natural filter for the fish and purify the water. This maintains a healthy balance for the fish to live in. This process is similar to fish farming and the same technique is used just on a larger scale. Ideal fish used in the Local River are typical fish-farm fish such as eel, tilapia, trout, perch, carp etc.

The lacavores define themselves as "a group of culinary adventurers who ear foods produced in a radius of 100 miles around their city.

This is a really cool idea. It would look great in your home and you can snake on home made vegetables as well.

Gilles Belley designed a new way to save energy with this new energy saver power strip. Most electrical appliances, when on "standby" use about 10% of electricity in the house. This device shows how much energy is being wasted from devices that are not in use. If a device is on standby a layer of light glows on the surface adapter, indicating that there is energy being wasted and signaling the user to turn it off. If the user does not respond within 3 mins the energy using device will be turned off automatically.

The energy saving adapter separated into modules and each one corresponds with a device, which monitors its power supply separately.

Dry-Erase Bamboo Panels

Great for your house. A design team from Three by Three , based in Seattle, created bamboo dry erase wall panels. It is made with real bamboo and a dry erase surface. They also come with two slits that allow you to slide accessory holders into them. It can be hung vertically or horizontally. It is also on sale here.
